Forum support is okay as we get to sometimes know stuffs other members been through, but official hosting support is always needed in case of emergencies.

Hosting support is needed for major problems like DDOS attacks. Forum support is needed way less. In fact, a free support forum is probably enough.

Yes, it's in times like this that you're going to appreciate using a paid hosting services over free one's. This is because the support which will be rendered to you when there's a DDoS attack will fix the problem as quickly as possible.
